My Favorite Quotes for When I Need Money Motivation

Motivational Quote - Ayn RandWe all have those days when our money goals seem insurmountable. We are standing at the bottom of Mount Everest, wondering how we will ever possibly get to the top. I’ve been struggling with that a lot lately as I look at my financial independence countdown. I want the end result so badly, but five years seems like a long time! So, for all the others out there who feel like it just can’t be done, I wanted to share my top ten favorite quotes for money motivation! If we power through the tough days, we’ll reach our financial summit!

“Almost every successful person begins with two beliefs: The future can be better than the present, and I have the power to make it so.” – David Brooks

Don’t let the status quo become the enemy of your success! These two beliefs are so simple and powerful to keep me moving forward. I won’t be spending 90-100 hour weeks working and hustling forever. I’m using my power to make my life better! You can too.

“At first they’ll ask you why you’re doing it. Later they’ll ask you how you did it.” – Unknown

This quote is one of my favorites for when I’m having a tough day being an odd duck. Having financial goals, and chasing them, isn’t normal in our society. Debt is viewed as a way of life. Working until 65 is considered a necessity. But just because it isn’t normal, just because other people make excuses instead of putting in the work, doesn’t mean it can’t be done. And they’ll be jealous when you do it!

“Do not give up what you want MOST for what you want NOW.” – Dave Ramsey

You can’t have a money motivation quote round up without Dave Ramsey. How many families has this man helped get out of debt? His quote here is one of his best. I wanted nothing more Sunday night than to curl up and read a book before bed. But instead, I wrote a blog post. Becuase what I want most is to chase my passions. Know your priorities!

“Do what you have to do until you can do what you want to do.” – Oprah Winfrey

This is the DREAM, Oprah! Working for the day that I wake up and do not have to put on uncomfortable clothes, leave my family, and go to an office. What does this empowering quote make you think of? What would you do if you reached financial freedom?

“It takes no guts to be skeptical, it takes guts to believe. To put yourself on the line. To take action and risk failure and ultimately to succeed.” – Tony Robbins

I’m not usually a sucker for motivational speakers, but Tony Robbins is one of my favorite people. This is one of my favorite quotes when the scared haters are around and questioning my goals.

“The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.” – Ayn Rand

No one! Most of the time when people don’t reach their goals, someone didn’t shut them down, instead, they chose to question themselves and give up. I refuse to be the one to stop myself. Will you?

“The price of anything is the amount of life you exchange for it.” – Henry David Thoreau

With a goal like early retirement or being debt free, every expense means a lot more. When an unexpected expense comes up now, we are far more likely to think of it in terms of how much longer I will have to work to pay it off than we were before. It doesn’t matter whether or not we have the cash, it matters what spending that cash will mean!

“Security is mostly a superstition. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” – Helen Keller

Maybe we reach our goals. Maybe we don’t. But it sounds way more fun to try!

“No matter how great the talent or efforts, some things just take time. You can’t produce a baby in one month by getting nine women pregnant.” – Warren Buffett

I’m hustling as much as I possibly can. I’m making sacrifices and I’m chasing my goals, but progress is slow. Luckily, Mr. Buffett is always there with this humorous quip to remind me that I have to be patient. No matter how hard I work, some things just take time.

“Do one thing every day that scares you.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

The idea of financial independence lights me up. It makes my heart race. Just the thought of handing in my resignation someday, with young kids still in the house, is frightening and amazing. So every day, and especially days when I’m questioning my power, I stretch my comfort zone just a little bit. I do it scared.

What are your favorite money motivation quotes? What do you do when you feel like your goals are too big? Let me know that I’m not alone!

  1. Amazing how many profound things Eleanor Roosevelt has said. I’m not sure if I rely on quotes for motivation, although I do find them inspiring in the moment. I like to just try and keep a positive attitude about things, waking up each morning and reminding myself that today is a great day.

    1. Quotes are a great kickstart for positive thinking. I wouldn’t lean on them to direct you life for sure, as you said they can inspire you and help you change your attitude when you’re having a bad day and digging yourself a hole. Always awesome to try to keep a positive attitude! Have a great day!

  2. These are interesting!
I have to admit, I never really paid any attention to money quotes 😀 Whenever I feel overwhelmed when it comes to finances, I take a step back and think about the big picture. Remembering why you’re on a “quest” to save, pay off debt or achieve any other financial goal, it helps to remember why you started it in the first place.

    1. Thanks for checking out the quotes, Adriana! It is so important to remember your goals and mission when you are feeling overwhelmed. 🙂
